“The land is where our roots are. The children must be taught to feel and live in harmony with the Earth.”
– Maria Montessori

The Sundance Children’s Community Garden first broke ground in May 2002, with a dedicated group of parents tilling the soil and building planting boxes.  Since it’s early days, the garden has grown over the years with parents, teachers, and students working together to foster social relationships through community gardens. Our mission is to provide a safe, green space where children and their families can explore, learn about gardening and nutritious food, participate in community outreach by sharing the harvest from the garden, and have fun with their friends and neighbors.

In May of 2009, the Sundance Children’s Garden was awarded a substantial grant in the amount of $3,663.00 from the First 5 Sacramento Commission, as a part of their Community Building Initiative (CBI). The grant allowed Sundance Montessori School to provide more space for future activities in the garden.  Some of the activities that take place in the Sundance Children’s Community Garden include:

  • Spring Ice Cream Social
  • Fall and Spring Family Gardening Days
  • Spring Fair: Health, Science, Cultural
  • Cal Expo Garden in A Wheelbarrow entry
